What to do when you feel lost or uncertain.
Who do you have in your life that pushes you positively in the direction of your goals? Who do you have that believes you can always do better? Who believes in you so much that you eventually come to see it for yourself? Who holds you to a higher standard? Who thinks you can always do better work and more prolific output?
If you don’t have someone in your life that its positively pushing you in the direction of your goals, you need to get someone who will. Pay them. Have them talk with you regularly about what you’re up to (or not) and make sure you’re doing what you say you desire to do. We need regular check-ins with coaches or trusted advisors, people who will be there for us to help us grow. Most people don’t have this in their lives. There’s no one around challenging them to do better, to be more, to produce higher quality work. Without these people in their lives, it’s hard to push oneself beyond what you think you’re capable of. You don’t know what you’re capable of. Which is why you need that trusted advisor in your life to help coach you and team up with you on what you desire. These are people that will help you get after it and push you in a positive direction. The trusted advisor can also help you get clear about what it is you want right now. What we want can change as our life changes. But it is still imperative that we know what we want right now and pursue that with gusto. There’s nothing worse than spinning your wheels or being unclear or murky about what it is you want. If you cannot explain to people very simply what it is you want, you’re not there yet. Get clarity. It is fundamental to everything else that you desire. A coach can help you get clear: clearly stated goals; clearly stated dates; clearly stated beliefs; clearly stated dreams; clearly stated actions. It is a wonderful gift you give yourself and to others. It is a great gift to others because it showcases what’s possible to them. It shows them what they, too, can have if they find clarity in their lives. Clarity is a gift that keeps on giving, like an annuity.
Whenever you feel lost or uncertain, always return to the fundamentals. Take stock of what you’ve got right now. What talents, skills, abilities, unfair advantages, beliefs, and traits you’re fortunate to have in your life. If you’re like most people, you’ve got way more to be grateful for than you think. Also, if you’re like most people, you’re underestimating what it is you offer and are capable of. We’re too close to our skills and abilities to see them clearly or objectively. This is why it is important to ask a close friend about what they think our best skills and abilities are. They will have insights into you that you may not see clearly. Some of these may even turn into great business ideas for you because they’re your skills repertoire. Everyone has something they offer others that a market would be willing and able to pay for. Everyone. You just have to uncover it. Once you find it, you unleash it. Then, you’re more certain. Then, you’re more confident in your abilities. Then, you’re more clear about your life’s path. Getting paid for what you know builds great confidence within you. You see that you possess the skills that others see value in and pay accordingly for.
