Here are the Things You Don’t Need to Succeed in 2020.
There is never a need to wait. Ever.
This time of year, we are masters at putting off until. We wait until after the holidays to start the new weight loss program. We put off the new work-out routine until after January 1st. We put off mending the relationship until some time into the new year. We tell ourselves we’ll begin walking — even running! — more in 2020. (P.S. if you’re not walking a lot right now, what makes you think you’ll stick to running next year!?) We say we’ll talk to the Boss about that raise and promotion once things calm down at the crazy office we work at, and yet that calming down never comes. (If The Boss doesn’t know what you want for your career, who’s fault is that?)
We tell ourselves that we’ll begin Keto some time in mid January, you know, after all the Holiday Crap We Call Food is either eaten or thrown away, too little of which is actually given away.
We tell ourselves that if she would just apologize for the Thing We’ve All Already Long Forgotten About is Finally Apologized For, then we’ll renew our relationship with our closest ‘loved’ ones.
We tell ourselves that we will hit the gym on Monday morning at 5 AM like Jocko always says we should just as soon as, well, no. We’re not doing that. Ever. Is Jocko out of his mind?! What are we? Navy SEALs?!
Give yourself the gift of emotional honesty in 2020.
The gift we need to give ourselves for 2020 is emotional honesty. Once we finally stop Bullshitting ourselves, stop lying to ourselves about who we are and what we want, once we finally take a stand vs. self, once we finally start doing things for ourselves instead of constantly trying to endlessly please our parents (eye-roll), once we finally, actually get after and own our personal & professional development, once we finally stop eating our own boredom because we are constantly surrounded by crap food and boredom (if you’re bored all the time, who’s fault is that?), we discover authenticity and unleash what we can truly become. What will you choose for you? Who will you choose to become?
It is time to strip away all the B.S.
So much of this is the simple act of stripping away all the Bullshit. Simple, but not easy. It is just like the gym: you only need the dumbbells and the pullup bar. That’s it. You don’t need anything else. You already have everything you need inside of you — right now. This present moment is yours. Own it. Monday morning at 5 AM is wonderful if you make it so.
Here is what you don’t need:
You don’t need any more money. You don’t need any more team. You don’t need any more tech. You don’t need more education. You don’t need any more credentials. You don’t need another guru. You don’t need acknowledgement or accolades or praise from The Boss. You don’t need more oversight. You don’t need to be told what to do when it comes to food and exercise for the 1,119th time. You don’t need more crap food. You don’t need more dizzying alcohol. You don’t need more support. You don’t need people to cheer you on. You don’t need people to understand you.
Here is what you need:
-To Ship your Art
-To Create
-To plug-in
-To stand up and do your work
-To work-out
-To get outside
-To meditate
-To stretch
-To eat right
-To take notes
-To take a stand for yourself
-To read
-To connect with people in person
-To concentrate
-To work through the struggle
-And finally, you need the dumbbells and the pullup bar. And maybe a few kettlebells.
That’s it. Now, Go!
